Costume designer Jenny Beavan has worked on more than 30 movies since her motion picture career began in 1979. One of her recent achievements, Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, exemplifies her meticulous attention to historical accuracy while redefining the look and attitude of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters. Beavan credits Jude Law's and Robert Downey's performances for making the wardrobe seem modern, but her bohemian styling of Downey and military styling of Law were bold departures from anything Sherlock fans had seen before.
For an in-depth analysis of the wardrobe from 2009's Sherlock Holmes, read Chris Laverty's article at ClothesOnFilm.com.

I haven't seen the movie, but I would have to agree judging by these photos that the outfits look interesting and not the way I imagined both of the characters to look like when I was reading the books!
