I'm about to junk these trousers. The fabric is tarnished. The bottoms are frayed. Then it strikes me that I'm short on, well, shorts for Spring. And if you're like me, you prefer a narrower fit on your knee breeches. In that regard trousers make better shorts than the store bought variety, which tend to flare.

There are only 2 key components to this process: sharp scissors and careful measurements. If you favor a folded hem, add 6 centimeters to the length. These were folded up twice after being sheared. If you prefer a frayed look at the bottom, put them through the laundry once or twice.

This is such a great idea! They look wonderful!
The narrow-cut shorts are great - a lot of men's lines have been slimming them down lately, which is so much better looking than a big baggy pair.
I know this is one of your simpler looks but it's one of my favorites. If a guy can look great in a white t-shirt, it's the best thing there is.
wow, they turned out great! i've already made 2 shorts, so much easier and nicer than buying them!
please check out my blog!

Ugh you are so adorable it's unbearable. Reading your blog hurts (not really).
i do this! got a couple DIY shorts myself...
Wow, I really like these shorts! I like the slim fit - much more flattering than those that flare.
Also, love the background and the Dwele song!
Great job on the shorts. They came out great. I have a few jeans that I could turn into shorts, so need to get started on those.
Excellent diy Graham. Not a lot of men look good in shorts, but you definitely do. Well done. ;)

awesome, I'm gonna do shorts from my old jeans tommorow, you inspired me :)
Now I know what to do with those jeans! i love your blog!
I just did this with 2 pairs of jeans I picked up from Goodwill. 2 for $10 is good in my book. Glad to see someone else is handy with the scissors...
you make simple look damn good.
Beautiful , purely a great idea !
That reminded me of when I was a little girl , my sister did the same thing to her jeans and managed to get it to fray at the ends stylishly !
Brilliant post !
I have to agree, trousers do make better shorts! I never really thought of it before, but now I can see why I thought most guys in shorts didn't look good. The narrow fit on the bottom makes the look so much more polished and very city-friendly - otherwise one has a good chance end up sporting a very beach ready look and I never liked seeing this in a city. With that being said, you look GREAT, Graham!! I love your shirt too - the rolled up sleeves and relaxed buttons look just right and I love the choice of white kicks for this outfit!
P.S. I think if you end up making a gif pic of yourself it should be oficially called a "gih" picture ;-)
couldn't have revamped the look any classier. I bold composition of urban streetwear luxe with postman charm!
I second the careful measurements. Nothing is worse than trying to eyeball it, then discovering that one leg is a little longer than the other. Then the shorts continue to inch upwards after trying to even them out!
i've been wondering how to get that frayed look when i make shorts from pants. i thought you had to just "wear them in" until they got the frayed look by themselves. thanks for the tip!
fantastic look, love the cut off pants..
xoxo cla
my friend this is a great way using "old" pairs of trousers....i've already cut one denim pair...!!!
Too easy and looks too amazing!
